Regional Forum on Good Government Through its contract with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to assist Mexico in strengthening democracy and governance programs, C&A worked with Mexico’s Secretary of Public Administration (Secretaría de la Función Pública) and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional) to organize a Regional Forum on Good Government from Nov. 7 to 10, 2005, in Mexico City. The forum was designed to share programs and tools developed by the Government of Mexico with assistance from the international community, including USAID. More than 250 Mexican government officials from 24 Mexican states and delegates from 11 countries in Central America and the Caribbean came together to learn about the Mexican federal reform agenda and share strategies to create an honest and transparent government that puts citizens first. Speakers included U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza, Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Ernesto Derbez, and Mexican Secretary of Public Administration Eduardo Romero Ramos. Ambassador Garza’s participation in the opening event received wide coverage in print, television, and radio, including five minutes in the highest-rated primetime television news show in Mexico and full-page coverage in leading Mexican newspapers. As a result of the conference, Mexico signed 12 agreements to share programs and technology developed with international donor assistance. |
