Capabilities
Supporting the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Initiatives in Bolivia C&A managed a two-year anti-corruption and rule of law program in Bolivia
funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Under
the $2.2 million program, C&A provided technical assistance and
training to Bolivia's judiciary and prosecutorial institutions to increase
their capacity to enforce transparency and accountability laws. In addition,
C&A worked with civil society organizations to create national
and regional coalitions to fight corruption as well as a special executive
branch unit to strengthen its leadership and institutional capabilities.
Other program activities included legal reforms and alternative mechanisms
for citizens to hold government accountable for its actions, development
of strategies and norms to fight impunity and protect whistleblowers,
a national public awareness campaign to improve citizens' knowledge about
their right to demand government transparency, and a small grants program
for citizens groups and local nongovernmental organizations engaged in
anti-corruption and government reform efforts. C&A also runs a separate democracy-strengthening program in Bolivia through USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives. |
