Transparency and Citizen Participation Program in the Dominican Republic
Casals & Associates, Inc. (C&A) was selected by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to manage a $1.8 million Transparency and Citizen Participation Program in the Dominican Republic. The principal objectives of this project are to advocate civil society’s call for accountable, transparent and participatory government, bolster capacity to monitor government performance, and establish and strengthen mechanisms within governmental institutions that prevent, detect and deter corrupt practices. In accordance with USAID’s Anticorruption Strategy, C&A’s approach is to confront the dual challenges of grand and administrative corruption by designing crosscutting interventions to maximize transformation and promote sustainability. C&A implements activities related to transparency indices, social audit, judicial sector and institutional strengthening, as well as the development of media campaign messages illustrating that reform is possible when citizens share in the responsibility of making democracy work.
