Combating
Corruption in Nigeria
From 2000 to 2004, C&A managed a USAID funded project in Nigeria to develop and implement three World Bank Institute surveys on corruption in the African nation as well as follow-on policy workshops and a multimedia public awareness campaign. The surveys sampled Nigerian households, public officials, and businesses on their experiences and perceptions about corruption. As part of the project headquartered in Abuja, C&A provided financial and technical support to a consortium of local institutions drawn from Nigeria’s major geopolitical zones. The multilingual public awareness campaign, which was related to the surveys, educated Nigeria’s citizenry about corruption’s devastating impact on democracy and economic development. To ensure that campaign messages were appropriate for Nigeria’s diverse population, C&A provided an array of technical and financial support, including small grants, to a network of local civil society organizations, television stations, production companies and government entities.
